Summary
World War 2 is said to have started with Japan, Italy, and China trying to continuously gain more land by attacking other countries; wanting to spread their power as far as they possibly could. The League of Nations struggled to uphold the peace and lacked the power to enforce treaties.
Around this time Spain was in civil war Hitler and Mussolini supported the revolution. The Spanish Civil War divided the world into those who supported Nazism or Fascism, and those who were against it.
Hitler and British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain held several meanings to restore peace and they agreed on allowing Hitler to take Czechoslovakia as long as he didn't acquire more land. However 11 months later, September 1, 1939 he broke the treaty, invading Poland- using his famous Blitzkrieg tactic (relied on speed and surprise) and they carried it out flawlessly AKA the "Phony War".

Later on Germany conquered Denmark and Norway. Neville resigned and Winston Churchill replaced him while Germany created another Blitzkrieg- taking over Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands. They then planned yet ANOTHER Blitzkrieg taking over France, while the French had signed an armistice- France had fallen.
Germany began to attack the British Royal Air Force but by 1940 Germans had destroyed it. They did not stop there, they went ahead and decided to then bomb London- this period of constant bombing was known as the Blitz. However although they suffered a lot from Germany's harmful attacks they still survived and thrived while Germany halted their attacks in 1941. Britain struggled to keep control of Northern Africa and tried to keep Italy out of Libya- but by May of 1949 Britain had regained control. March and April of 1941 was spent by Germany taking over Greece with the first airborne invasion dropping paratroopers who quickly took the island. This was all a mistake on Hitler's part because then he would have had to delay his attack on the Soviet Union and fight a nasty winter war.

Operation Barbarossa which was the invasion of the Soviet Union was carried out June 22, 1941- Soviets suffered hundreds of thousands of casualties. This invasion had gone well for the Germans, however it only lasted briefly. Hitler ended up taking Leningrad and south by the Black Sea. In December their advances were stopped by the below freezing winter weather. Later on British task forces destroyed the German Navy's pride and joy, the Bismarck by sinking in May of 1941. But as usual the Germans had yet another trick of their sleeves which had been the U-boats; underwater boats that destroyed any Allied supply ship- but this didn't last for long either because allied forces had long-range torpedo bombers, warship escorts of supply ships, and their advanced sonar which threatened the dreaded Unterseeboote.

Franklin D. Roosevelt hoped to win the war by supplying Allied forces and that this way it would keep the United States from entering the war. Japan on the other hand was too busy overruling China but the U.S. came in by cutting off all American goods said to be shipped off to Japan. The Japanese then pinpointed its target; The United States Navy and thus the famous attack on Pearl Harbor took place. The next day, the United States, Canada, and Great Britain declared war on Japan.
Meanwhile December of 1941 the Soviets had recovered and were ready to push Germany 100 miles back- and they did. Hitler then order a capture of Stalingrad that was a 5 month battle- but the Soviets came back killing 300,000 German soldiers- which halted Germany's eastward march. In 1941 Allied defeats stop in Europe while Soviets defeated Germans in a battle in Stalingrad in 1943. The allies were soon on a roll: they won battles in Africa and forced Italy to surrender in 1943, and by 1944 they were ready to invade northern France.

Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin all got together to discuss the strategy and plans behind the invasion. This attack was known to be the D-Day Invasion. Hitler laughed and said his forces could resist any attack on the coast, but little did he know this would be the largest seaborne invasion in history. GErmans fought fiercely but did not win the battle, the Allies built a temporary Harbor to receive supplies, and a pipeline across the British Channel for oil.
Allies advanced slowly in the beginning but the Americans fought and captured Cherbourg on June 27 and Britain and Canada captured Caen on July 28- the Allied forces had finally reached open country.
German troops in paris were ordered by Hitler to destroy Paris but the Allies had arrived before they could do anything on August 25th and liberated France- and slowly the Allied forces moved toward Germany. German generals knew they were beat and they tried to tell Hitler but he still insisted to fight on and for a while it looked like Germany would be okay; after about two weeks Americans stopped the German advance near Belgium.

...we're almost there...
The Soviets had slowly pushed back the Germans after the Battle at Stalingrad. The Soviet Union had been producing and importing war supplies from Britain and the U.S. in preparation for another Battle at Kursk. Soviet forces waited for Germany with tanks, mines, anti-tank guns and aircrafts. All 3,000 German tanks were ordered to retreat and Soviet forces moved onward to Leningrad defeating the Germans and moving towards Poland- as they get to the outskirts of Warsaw, Stalin refused to come to Polish aid and 20,000 Polish soldiers were murdered. Afterwards the Soviets came in and destroyed the Germans in 1945, and Soviet forces that moved toward Hungary destroyed all Germans in its path- and the Soviets did not stop there in February of 1945 Soviets had driven out all German forces passed Budapest - and after their strong advance they had taken over most of eastern Europe.
Allies had begun their final assault in 1945 and Soviet forces were advancing to Berlin, British and Canadian forces came from the north, and American and French forces got closer to central Italy; and the Allies had basically surrounded Germany. Before closing in on Germany, Allies passing through previously occupied areas were shocked at the sight of concentration camps.
Hitler commited suicide before the Allied forces took Berlin, and on May 7, 1945 Alfred Doenitz (Hitler's replacement) signed a declaration of unconditional surrender, ending the war in Europe.
